President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about Ukraine’s need for Patriot interceptor missiles ahead of winter.
He made these remarks in an interview with DW on Friday at the Canadian military base in North Bay, according to Ukrinform.
The Ukrainian leader noted that Russia is currently producing 140 ballistic missiles per month, whereas, according to NATO standards, a 1-to-2 ratio is required to destroy them—that is, 280 interceptor missiles. Zelensky emphasized that it is impossible to obtain such a number of missiles, adding that for Ukraine, receiving even 100 interceptor missiles per month is a “huge challenge.”
“I want to have 100–120 [interceptor missiles] for these difficult months, especially the cold months. We’ll see how many months this winter lasts—that is, these cold months: one, two, three. We don’t know. This is truly a major challenge,” Zelensky said.
The president noted that Ukraine could receive missiles from U.S. reserves or production, as well as as part of an aid package from Europe. He added that he is discussing supplies with countries in the Middle East.
