How LeBron James’ wife Savannah James is challenging the stigma around men’s mental health(Image via Getty Images)LeBron James has spent years in the spotlight as one of the biggest names in sports. Away from the NBA court, his wife, Savannah James, has used her own platform to talk about issues that go well beyond basketball. On February 27, 2026, Savannah’s conversation on “Everybody’s Crazy” turned to men’s mental health and why some men still struggle to speak openly about what they are going through. Her message was direct. Talking about mental health should not make a man feel weak. Savannah James explains why some men see mental health as a “weak point”During a recent episode of Everybody’s Crazy, Savannah James and co-host April McDaniel spoke with caller Christopher Rivera Mannon about vulnerability and the pressure men can feel when discussing their mental health.Savannah explained that some men may worry that opening up will make them look less strong. She said the problem can start with the way society treats emotional vulnerability, especially when men feel expected to handle everything on their own.“I think it also is guys talking about mental health seems like it's not cool or it doesn't feel like you're strong enough and that is not true, and some guys don't want to, they feel like it's a weak point,” Savannah said during the discussion. That comment became the heart of the conversation. Savannah pointed out how easily men can talk about their jobs, families and children, yet struggle to turn the conversation toward themselves. For someone like LeBron James, who has spent much of his life dealing with enormous public expectations, the subject also carries a familiar theme: the pressure to stay composed even when life gets difficult. Savannah did not make the discussion about her husband, though. Instead, she focused on a wider issue facing men.She and McDaniel also discussed the idea of men having trusted groups where they can speak honestly, similar to the close support systems many women have. The conversation then moved toward what vulnerability can actually mean. April McDaniel says asking for help can be a sign of strengthMcDaniel challenged the idea that showing vulnerability takes away from a man's strength. She argued that being honest and admitting when help is needed can take real courage.“Yes. And I think the strongest way that you can be is vulnerable and honest, and like when you need help, ask for help,” McDaniel said during the same “Everybody’s Crazy” episode. She also highlighted the need for more therapists of color, both men and women. McDaniel said some people want professional help but struggle to find support that feels accessible to them. That added another layer to Savannah’s point. The issue is not simply getting men to talk. They also need spaces where those conversations feel safe and useful.Savannah James’ message was ultimately simple. Men should not have to choose between appearing strong and admitting that they are struggling. Her intelligent conversation pushed back on that old idea and placed vulnerability in a different light.Instead of seeing mental health conversations as a weakness, Savannah and McDaniel argued that asking for help can be part of taking care of yourself.
