Featuring the sport’s best record, the Brewers clinched thanks to a 20-0 rout of the Cincinnati Reds on Friday that also featured Milwaukee’s first grand slam of the season. The Brewers are on the cusp of their fourth straight National League Central division crown, as they lead the Chicago Cubs by 10 games with just 14 remaining.Playing in the sport’s smallest market, while ranked 19th overall in payroll, the Brewers have been a model of consistency. They haven’t finished a full season under .500 in a decade, and they have maintained their control over the division despite top team leadership leaving for rival clubs in recent years.The one missing piece to all of Milwaukee’s success over the years is postseason wins. Led by third-year manager Pat Murphy, the Brewers finally took a playoff series in 2025, winning the NLDS over the Cubs before the eventual champion Los Angeles Dodgers swept them in four games. Before last year, the Brewers had dropped five consecutive playoff series, squandering opportunities for a dynastic run.There are few holes in Milwaukee’s overall game. The club ranks fourth in baseball with a .745 OPS. The Brewers have team speed, also ranking fourth in stolen bases. They rank second in ERA, on the back of young ace Jacob Misiorowski, whose 236 strikeouts lead all of baseball. Their reliever ERA (3.44) ranks even better than their starter ERA (3.53). The Brewers also rank seventh with 41 defensive runs saved this season.Reaching the playoffs has not been in doubt, as the Brewers have been at or above .500 all season. Once they took over first place on May 19, they haven’t looked back.
