A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a one-year-old baby girl died. Emergency services were called to the scene in Atherstone on Friday morning, at around 11.50am, after reports of an infant in cardiac arrest. Paramedics attending the incident in Long Street battled to save the child's life, but the baby was pronounced dead. Two people have since been arrested on suspicion of child neglect, and a heavy emergency services presence remains in place at the scene. A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: 'Two arrests have been made as detectives investigate the death of a child today, September 11. 'At around 11.50am we were called to a home in Atherstone to reports of a one-year-old girl in cardiac arrest. Long Street in Atherstone, where emergency services were called to reports of an infant in cardiac arrest on Friday morning'Sadly, despite us and our ambulance colleagues making every effort to save her, she passed away. 'A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and they remain in custody at this time. 'There is a scene in place and a partial road closure on Long Street and we would like to thank residents for their understanding. 'We know many will find this news upsetting. Officers will be in the area for the time being - please speak with them if you have any concerns.'
