Few things bring out a mechanic’s frustration and salty vocabulary faster than a bolt that loosens normally but apparently can’t be removed. At that point, the job becomes less about turning a wrench than trying to understand the bit of apparent engineering negligence staring back at you.
We see and hear this situation up close in a recent TikTok clip from mechanic Arianna Palmer (@arisinnovativeauto26) where she's faced with an alternator that's held in place by a bolt with nowhere to go. It doesn't take her long to voice the justified frustration she faces with the job ahead of her.
“Whose [expletive] idea was it to put this bolt alternator on right here?” she asks while wiggling and pulling against an alternator with nowhere to go. So far the video has been viewed more than 775,000 times.
Nowhere To Go
The problem is clear as Palmer tries to move the bolt that hits the surrounding bodywork before it can clear the alternator. It’s a simple fact: there isn’t enough room to pull it the rest of the way.
