Six goals, six different goalscorers and one almighty statement victory from Championship promotion hopefuls West Ham United as they savaged Wrexham at the London Stadium.Phil Parkinson’s visitors from north Wales may have clinched a tiny bit of club history as they played in front of a new record attendance in east London but they were left chasing shadows against a rampant home side, who showed little mercy as they roared back to the top of the table on Friday night.Anthony Patterson superbly tipped Jarrod Bowen strike tipped onto the bar with his forearm in the early stages but the Wrexham goalkeeper was powerless to prevent West Ham’s talisman opening the scoring with 29 minutes on the clock, expertly turning the ball home as he connected with a low cross from left-back Morato. After Konstantinos Mavropanos blocked a goalbound drive from George Dobson at one end of the pitch, a patient Taty Castellanos picked the right moment to tee up Joel Piroe to sweep home West Ham’s second at the other.Mavropanos got himself on the scoresheet just after the break, his header from a corner squeezing under Patterson’s body, and West Ham got their fourth when, after defending a set piece, Kyle Walker-Peters stormed downfield before playing a simple side-footed pass to the feet of Castellanos, who fired home with 63 minutes gone.West Ham weren’t done, with Mohamadou Kante crashing in a left-footed effort after latching onto a Manor Solomon lofted through ball and Solomon himself getting in on the act with seven minutes of the 90 to go.Roshane Thomas and Richard Sutcliffe break down the main talking points from a thoroughly one-sided affair.Mavropanos: A force of nature at both ends of the pitchRetaining Mavropanos beyond the summer transfer window was just as important as any summer addition. The centre-back, who was last season’s player of the year, belatedly won fans over with his solid performances during the second half of last season and, on a night when all of West Ham’s main attackers shone, continues to do the same this campaign. The Greece international is a constant threat on set pieces, getting on the end of Bowen’s corner against Wrexham, and also headed in Arne Engels’ free kick in the victory at Bolton. The defender has registered three goals this season, joint-third highest alongside summer arrival Piroe.Konstantinos Mavropanos rises high to head home in the first half (Justin Setterfield/Getty Images)Before the season-opener against Burnley, Nuno Espirito Santo would have thought Bowen, Piroe and Castellanos would be his main attacking outlets, but former Arsenal man Mavropanos has shown that he is equally as important offensively.Another pleasing aspect was the defender, alongside central defensive partner Max Kilman, helping the team keep their second clean sheet of the season. In his pre-match press conference, Nuno claimed keeping a clean sheet against promotion contenders Wrexham was a priority.
