Children returned to school amid the largest surge in measles in the United States in decades, raising concerns about the spread of the highly contagious virus as vaccination rates continue to slide. As of Sept. 11, there have been 3,294 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. this year — more than 1,000 more than the total number in 2025.
