Sam Bankman-Fried asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to overturn his fraud conviction and vacate a court order requiring him to forfeit $11 billion, according to CNN.
Bankman-Fried received a 25-year sentence following his 2023 jury trial, at which he was found guilty on counts of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering. Federal prosecutors alleged that he siphoned billions in customer funds out of the crypto exchange FTX and into Alameda Research, a hedge fund under his control, where the money financed risky investments, political donations, and his personal enrichment. He was sentenced in 2024.
