A 63-year-old pharmaceutical businessman, Vineet Minocha, was stabbed 26 times at his home in Kanpur on September 5, with police alleging that his 30-year-old daughter-in-law Shalu Minocha was in contact with the suspected killers during the attack, according to a report in The Times of India.Police arrested Shalu after arresting former domestic help Vishal Gautam and Raj Kishore in connection with the murder.Police suspect daughter-in-law's rolePolice said Shalu and her husband Subrat were at Cosmozin Lounge in Tilak Nagar when the alleged attack took place at Vineet's flat. The lounge's camera DVR did not have storage. One video showed around 20-25 people, mostly couples, dancing to Bollywood songs. Shalu was seen wearing a dark purple gown, while Subrat was wearing a grey shirt.Shalu was seen dancing to the song "Tum To Dhokhebaaz Ho, Vaada Karke Bhool Jaate Ho" during the evening, police said.Call records have also become a key part of the investigation. Police said Shalu, Subrat and Gautam spoke 330 times in the 21 days before the murder. Around 30 calls involved Shalu, while nearly 300 involved her husband.On the day of the murder, Shalu and Gautam spoke 14 times. She allegedly began replying around three months ago, complimented him on his looks, called him smart and asked about his relationship status and why he had not married.Police suspect Shalu allegedly hired Gautam for Rs 6 lakh following a dispute over CCTV cameras installed by Vineet at their apartment. She allegedly told Gautam that her father-in-law closely monitored activities inside the house through the cameras and objected whenever she returned home late.She allegedly gave Gautam the original key to the flat so he could get a duplicate made. Police said she also informed him when she, her husband and son would be away.Gautam allegedly brought Raj Kishore, 30, into the plan. Police said the two entered the flat on September 5 after identifying themselves to security personnel as medicine delivery men.The two allegedly hid in a bedroom and planned to suffocate Vineet so that his death would appear to have been caused by a heart attack.However, Vineet returned home at around 10.55 pm and allegedly discovered them. Police said the two then attacked him, stabbed him repeatedly and slit his throat before fleeing. A postmortem found 26 stab wounds on his body.Arrests and evidenceCCTV footage and call records helped investigators reconstruct the alleged conspiracy, police said.Gautam and Kishore were arrested after an encounter on September 6. Shalu was arrested the following night and sent to judicial custody.DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said Gautam erased his chat history with Shalu after the murder but failed to completely delete the WhatsApp call records. Investigators subsequently found evidence of multiple exchanges between the two.The family has also spoken about the impact of the murder on Shalu's five-year-old son. They said the boy has become withdrawn since her arrest, is eating poorly and sleeping badly, and often wakes up frightened and calls for his mother.The boy also asks relatives when his mother will return and where his grandfather has gone, the family said.According to the family, the child was close to Vineet, who had gifted him a bike on his last birthday.
