The Delhi High Court on Thursday (September 10, 2026) recorded a statement by the producer of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ that the film, purportedly based on actor Salman Khan, is not ready for release as it is yet to obtain certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).Justice Jyoti Singh, hearing Mr. Khan’s plea seeking to restrain the release of the film, directed producer Amit Jani to file his response within two weeks. The matter will be heard next on September 30.The Court also directed Mr. Jani’s counsel to inform it on September 14 about the proposed release date, making it clear that the film should not be released until then.“The counsel appears for defendant no. 1 and on instructions states that the impugned movie at this stage is not in a releasable state as its content is yet to be certified by the censor board. Statement is taken on record,” the Court said.During the hearing, Mr. Khan’s counsel pointed out that the filmmakers had been indicating that the movie would be released in September and argued that its release would cause “immense harm” to the actor.The producer’s counsel, however, submitted that the film was not in a releasable form, had not yet been sent to the censor board for certification and that even its trailer had not been released.The actor has alleged that the film seeks to commercially exploit his identity and distinctive attributes in connection with the blackbuck poaching controversy.The Court had in July ordered the removal of the film’s teaser and related posts from online platforms after Mr. Khan objected to the content.It had said the filmmakers could not exploit the 59-year-old actor’s name, mannerisms and other distinctive attributes for commercial gain without his authorisation, or disseminate material capable of harming his reputation.The court had also restrained the makers from uploading, hosting, sharing, publicising or disseminating the teaser and accompanying posts on social media, OTT platforms, television and print media.Mr. Khan had earlier approached the Court seeking protection against the unauthorised use of his name, image, persona and likeness by social media platforms and e-commerce websites.
