(AI Image) A woman and her newborn died after receiving treatment at a private hospitalMAU: A woman and her newborn died after she allegedly received treatment at a private hospital in Mau that had been sealed by the administration and health department last year, officials said.The hospital, Indrajeet Hospital in Ratanpura, was allegedly operating through an alternate entrance despite the main entrance being locked. The health department has now sealed the facility again after the matter came to light.Ajit Rajbhar, a resident of Targouli village in Ballia district, lodged a complaint with the chief medical officer alleging that his pregnant wife, Sarita, was admitted to the hospital on September 8 after an ASHA worker advised the family to take her there.According to the complaint, doctor Himanshu Yadav told the family that Sarita's condition was serious and advised an operation. After the delivery, the newborn died and Sarita continued to bleed, the complaint alleged.Rajbhar alleged that hospital staff refused to continue treating his wife, following which he took her to another private hospital in Mau. She was subsequently referred to Varanasi, where doctors at a private hospital declared her dead, according to the complaint.Chief Medical Officer Pankaj Rai said Indrajeet Hospital had been sealed in 2025 on the instructions of the district magistrate."The main lock was intact, but the hospital was being operated by opening a passage from the back," Rai said.After being informed about the incident, the health department, in coordination with the sub-divisional magistrate, sealed the hospital again, he said.A complaint has also been lodged against the hospital operator and steps are being taken to register an FIR, Rai said.The administration is investigating how treatment was allegedly being carried out at a facility that had already been sealed, officials said.(With PTI inputs)
