President Bola Tinubu confirmed that Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has received the cash rewards promised for winning the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Thursday, following confirmation by the National Sports Commission that all outstanding cash components of the rewards had been paid.
According to the President, each D’Tigress player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while officials received $50,000 each.
“Today, the rewards I promised our D’Tigress have been fully redeemed. Each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official has received the equivalent of $50,000, completing their package of cash rewards, national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja,” Tinubu said. The President said the payments took time because his administration had to follow the required legal and administrative processes to fulfil the commitments.
