It has been the host of the U.S. Open since 1978, boasting a facility that features 22 courts inside its 46.5 acres. The crown jewel is Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest center court in professional tennis. Ashe’s capacity is 23,771, and it’s undergoing a $600 million renovation that will add 2,000 courtside seats. And the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center feel ... quiet. This is a stark contrast compared to the buzz and electricity that define this tournament. I'm sure it will get to that point once people arrive at the tournament after work for tonight’s excellent semifinal session. But Fountain Plaza is chill, with sparse numbers of people walking around the grounds. They are either getting food and beverages or watching junior and wheelchair tennis matches on the outer courts.
