Former president Joe Biden is sharing an update about his prostate cancer treatment amid Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. In a Tuesday X post, Biden, 83, said that the radiation treatment he’s been receiving since last fall “worked as intended,” and that he’s been able to continue doing “the things I care about, like finishing my memoir” as a result. Biden’s memoir, “Promise Me, America,” is set to be released on Nov. 17, 2026. Biden’s health update came after his office publicly announced he had been diagnosed with an aggressive, metastatic prostate cancer that had spread to his bones in May 2025. Noting that every September he and his office observe Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, he declared, “This year it’s more personal for me.” “More than 330,000 American men this year will hear the words we did last spring when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer,” he continued. “By the time we found it, it had already spread to my bones. When prostate cancer is caught early, the five-year survival is close to 100%.” Biden urged his nearly 38 million X followers to “have the conversation with your doctor — don’t put it off.” Biden also warned, “If you’re at average risk, that conversation should start around 50, and the guidelines now say screening every 2 to 4 years. If you’re a Black man, start it at 45 or earlier. You are nearly 70% more likely to get this disease and 2 to 4 times more likely to die from it.” He called the prevalence of prostate cancer in America “an outrage in the richest country in the world.” Joe Biden completed a round of radiation therapy in late 2025 following his diagnosis. We appreciate every single one of you.” Wrapping up his message, Biden stressed that it is his hope and prayer that sharing his experience and bringing awareness to prostate cancer will help save lives. “Talk to your doctors,” he urged again, adding, “Ask the hard questions. Do it for yourself, and do it for the people who love you. And no matter what, keep the faith. God bless you.” Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, opened up about the emotional challenges of her husband’s cancer diagnosis last month during an appearance on the “Jaime Kern Lima Show.”“Of course I’m scared,” Jill said. “I mean, first of all, he’s almost 10 years older than I am.
