Iran’s grip on the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes over the past few months has massively increased its leverage in the ongoing conflict with the US.

Now Iran’s allies in Yemen – the Houthis – seem to be following suit by moving in on the other critical waterway in the region, the Bab al-Mandab Strait which forms the entrance to the Red Sea.
