For guests heading toward the Boom Boom Room for Bulgari’s New York Fashion Week party, a surprise detour awaited them: the night actually began up on the High Line.
There, Bulgari ambassadors Anne Hathaway and Lisa glimmered in jewels as a small crowd gathered for the unveiling of Bulgari’s “AuruBoros.” Curator Beatrice Galilee took to the mic to give some context for the installation, which was created by Berlin-based artistic duo Plastique Fantastique (Marco Canevacci and Yena Young).
“The installation begins with one of Bulgari’s most enduring icons, Serpenti. But rather than translating the serpent literally, Plastique Fantastique have opened up its forms and allowed it to move freely throughout the city,” Galilee explained. “Inspired by the ouroboros, the ancient image of a serpent consuming its own tail, the work explores the ideas at the heart of Serpenti, transformation, renewal and perpetual evolution.”

“The project emerged as an ongoing dialogue between the artist’s distinctive practice, the urban landscape of New York, and this particular spectacular context of the High Line,” Galilee added. “The work, as we’re going to see, appears to rise from the ground, passing between buildings and pressing against the architecture around it. Its reflective surface changes with the light, the weather, and the movement of the people who encounter it. You can’t quite tell where it begins or ends, where its head might be, or where its tail differs. There is something very fitting about encountering this work in New York, a city with an extraordinary history of temporary public art, works that may exist only briefly, but remain permanently in our collective memory.”
