BRUSSELS: European ​Commission President Ursula ​von der Leyen ​said on Thursday she will detail a proposal to protect children ‌from ⁠social ⁠media algorithms in a State ​of the Union speech on ​September 16."We do not have to accept childhoods ​shaped by ⁠algorithms. We do ‌not have ​to ​accept a system ⁠that fails our children. Europe has ​the power to act," ​she said in a post on X.Von der Leyen called in a speech ‌in May for more protections for children ​against the "addictive ​designs" ⁠of social media platforms such as TikTok, Meta and X, ​raising the possibility of an age limit on teens accessing them.
