bp has appointed Ian Tyler to the role of Chair, ending a search that began after the abrupt removal of his predecessor earlier this year.
He had held the role on an interim basis since May but will now take it up permanently and with immediate effect.
His appointment follows what bp has described as an "extensive" search process involving both internal and external candidates.
It also closes a difficult chapter for the company's boardroom, which has seen three different leadership arrangements at the top in under a year.
Ian Tyler's predecessor, Albert Manifold, lasted only eight months as Chair before he was removed earlier this year, with the company citing "serious concerns" about his conduct at the time.
