Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning basic education as the foundation for sustainable development, as he flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials, 19 buses and digital devices to basic schools across the state.
Mutfwang made this known on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB), Jos, during the ceremony marking the distribution of the educational resources and rollout of computers and tablets under the HOPE-EDU Programme.
He said the intervention was a deliberate effort to ensure that every Plateau child had access to relevant, safe and quality basic education.
The governor said the state’s decision to clear outstanding counterpart funding obligations to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) had enabled it to unlock critical interventions in the sector.
He disclosed that Plateau was now among states up to date with their UBEC counterpart obligations, following the clearance of outstanding payments inherited from 2022 and 2023, while the state was preparing to make its 2026 counterpart contribution.
