About Last Night: Somehow, the Seahawks are 1-0Out of all the ways last night’s season opener between the Seahawks and Patriots — last year’s Super Bowl contestants — could’ve gone, how it actually unfolded was as far as possible from expectation. Consider:
Sam Darnold, Super Bowl champion/reclamation king, got hurt on the first series of the game. His backup, Drew Lock, played the rest of the way.
A.J. Brown, the Patriots’ big offseason acquisition, played well until exiting the game, too, in the third quarter.
And, for about 40 minutes, this new-look New England team looked like a grown-up version of last year’s runners up. The offense was gritty enough. The defense stifled Lock and new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury’s attack. A 10-0 lead late in the third felt like plenty.
