FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys offense is supposed to be excellent this season. Their defense, however, has many questions to answer.So, it was no surprise when KaVontae Turpin caught a deep ball from Dak Prescott while facing Dallas’ starting defense on the first day of training camp. There was an important detail, though. The play came after it appeared that Prescott was pressured by the defensive front.There’s no hitting the quarterback in practice, so defenders run by if they win on a rush.Christian Parker knew what happened.“That’s a lot of f–––ing cardio for a sack,” the team’s new defensive coordinator yelled in the direction of Turpin and other Cowboys receivers running back to the huddle. Parker and Turpin then slapped hands.Parker wanted to make sure the offense knew the play was a notable win for the defense. The 34-year-old carries a no-nonsense, locked-in appearance during practice, but he also has a reputation for being one of the team’s biggest trash-talkers.Could this be the year for the Cowboys?Jon Machota and Jourdan Rodrigue“I would say the s––– talking from Christian Parker is a little different than what we had last year,” Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said in June. “The guys feed off of it in a good way, and you (reporters) are beginning to figure out his personality, in a good way. It’s been fun to watch him stir up CeeDee (Lamb), George (Pickens), Dak and those guys. I think we’re in a really good spot.”Parker has been tasked with turning arguably the worst defense in franchise history into one that is at least respectable. Witnessing what they have been trying to accomplish since rookie minicamp, it’s realistic to expect a much improved product come Sunday night in New Jersey.The roster has been upgraded. Defensive tackle Kenny Clark, cornerback DaRon Bland and safety Malik Hooker are the only starters remaining from last year’s season opener. The other eight aren’t even on the roster.
