TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its latest report on average temperature in the country on Wednesday, September 9. The report shows that the contiguous U.S. recorded its hottest meteorological summer on record in 2026, with the average temperature from June to August reaching approximately 23.6 degrees Celsius.As quoted by ANTARA, the report noted that the average temperature in the contiguous U.S. during the summer was approximately 1.7 degrees Celsius above the 20th-century average and 0.2 degrees Celsius higher than the previous records set in 1936 and 2021.August 2026 was recorded as the hottest month in history, with an average temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius—approximately 1.9 degrees higher than the 20th-century average.The average maximum daytime temperature reached 31.4 degrees Celsius, the highest record since measurements began.According to the report, both August and the meteorological summer of 2026 were the hottest on record since 1895 for the contiguous U.S.The average total precipitation across the contiguous United States in August reached around 5.84 cm, or about 0.81 cm below the 20th-century average, the report revealed.Read: August Hottest Month Ever Recorded, Says EU MonitorClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
