For years, the classroom has been the centre of technical training. The government now wants the workplace to become part of it, too.
The government is expanding dual training, with trainees spending up to 70 per cent of their training in industry to gain practical, job-ready skills. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said TVET’s success would depend on closer industry partnerships. “Industry must be more than a recipient of skills; it must be an active partner in shaping them,” Mr Ogamba said in a speech read by TVET Principal Secretary Esther Muoria at the International TVET Conference 2026 in Nairobi.
