There are few things more frustrating than washing your hair in the morning, spending half an hour drying it, with your wrist hurting by the end, and then looking in the mirror that evening to find your roots already starting to look greasy.
I’ve had that issue since my teens. My hair has always been oily and getting two days out of a wash is a miracle. I have tried washing it less, washing it more, using different products, and trying to convince myself that if I just pushed through the “greasy phase”, my scalp might somehow train itself to produce less oil. More often than not, though, dry shampoo is my best friend.
So when I was recently at the hairdresser, complaining about how quickly my hair gets oily, I was recommended Oribe’s Serene Scalp Oil Control Shampoo. I was promised it would work wonders on my oily roots but at £50 for 250ml, it is not something I can afford to regularly buy in this economy.
It also got me wondering whether expensive shampoos actually make a difference, or am I simply paying for the fancy bottle and the salon-approved name? I decided to test shampoos ranging from £1.39 supermarket own brands to £10 chemist shampoos and compare the results to the £50 “miracle” bottle, to find out if it was really worth the money.
