Miniature mobile data capacity-boosting base stations known as small cells have been deployed in Canterbury city centre to create denser infrastructure in the city, Kent County Council said.
The units, which have a reduced range and capacity compared to cellular macrocells, can be deployed densely to achieve high spatial spectrum efficiency.

The council said they are being attached to lampposts and other street furniture through a partnership with O2 and digital infrastructure company Freshwave.
Areas receiving a coverage boost currently include Clocktower Square and the Whitefriars retail quarter.
