A Phoenix mother has opened an assault case after alleging that a teacher repeatedly struck her 16-year-old daughter with a wooden plank at Havenpark Secondary School, leaving the Grade 10 pupil with tissue damage.
Krishnee Pillay told POST her daughter had been in severe pain for almost two weeks following the alleged incident, which she said happened while pupils were returning to class.
The school’s governing body has confirmed that the matter was reported and referred to the circuit manager, while stressing that it does not support or condone corporal punishment or any form of harm to pupils.
Pillay said her daughter and another pupil were among the last learners outside the classroom when the teacher allegedly stopped them and told them to wait outside.
