Electric vehicle maker Ultraviolette Automotive is getting ready to scale its production as it launches its new facility –Big Global Ambition (BIGGA) Factory- near Hosur in Tamil Nadu. Ultraviolette’s cumulative investment in this facility over the next four to five years is set to be around Rs 779 crore. Ultraviolette signed an MoU with the TN government in the investment conclave last month.Phase I will have capacity for around 2.5 lakh vehicles, while Phase II, expected after 2029, will double this to 5 lakh units. Ultraviolette’s future product portfolio includes multiple motorcycle segments (Sports, Crossover, Cruiser, Street) and scooters, including the highly anticipated Tesseract electric scooter.Scaling up production“In the next three to four years, we forecast that the product mix for Ultraviolette would be 50-50 between scooters and motorcycles. The immediate volume ramp-up is more skewed towards the Tesseract and the intent is to scale to about 10,000 units a month as quickly as possible through the new facility,” Narayan Subramaniam, Co-founder & CEO, Ultraviolette, told businessline. The paperwork for the land allotment is on, and the next step would be to commence plant development activities, he adds.He expects the new facility, set to come up at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Shoolagiri, to simplify their supply chain given that a large part of their vendor and supplier ecosystem today is already consolidated around Hosur and Chennai.In terms of direct employment, it would scale to about 2,000 people in Phase 1 of operations and possibly double to 4,000 to 5,000 in Phase 2.
