Apple iPhone Duo challenges Samsung’s Z Fold 8: How do they stand against each other?

Apple’s Surprise and Shine event did surprise tech enthusiasts as it deviated from the usual game plan by not launching a base iPhone 18 variant, and by unveiling their first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo.With the iPhone Duo, the Cupertino-based trillion-dollar company will compete against foldable makers like Samsung and Huawei, and also Google.Even though Samsung is into its eighth iteration of foldable, Apple flexing its display for the first time may attract users to have a sense what an iOS-operating foldable phone could offer. iPhone Duo directly competes with Galaxy Z Fold 8 — a new passport-style foldable phone that is heavily integrated with Samsung’s One UI 9 software on top of Galaxy AI.The iPhone’s Duo comes in a titanium build and has retained the same passport-style design with a stylus support as well, which Samsung dropped in the last series.Apple’s iPhone Duo operates on iOS 27 out of the box, claiming seamless transition to suit a folding layout. It uses Apple’s newly developed 2nm silicon, A20 Pro, and starts with 256 GB variant as base.Importantly, iPhone Duo will be available for sale from October 23, 43 days after its unveil, in India. More surprisingly, it costs ₹2,99,900, against the ₹1,79,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8.iPhone Duo gets a 5.4 inch cover and a 7.6 inch cover display, while the Z Fold 8 uses a 5.5 inch cover and a 7.6 inch main screen. Both the phones support eSIM.iPhone Duo sports dual 48 MP rear and a 12 MP front facing camera, whereas Samsung has given a dual 50 MP shooter at rear and a 10 MP for selfies.
