Apple has unveiled its first foldable iPhone, dubbed the iPhone Duo, in what marks the company’s biggest smartphone design change since the original iPhone.
The nearly Sh260,000 ($2,000) device has a passport-like design that folds into a compact phone and opens to reveal a larger screen. It has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner screen.
Apple said the phone is built with a titanium body and a custom hinge designed to make the fold in the screen less noticeable. The company also used ultra-thin glass and a flexible material in the display.
“Others have created foldables that just feel like two phones awkwardly stuck together,” said Apple Chief Executive John Ternus. “iPhone Duo brings an entirely new design while preserving everything you love from an iPhone.”
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and comes with a 48-megapixel dual-camera system and two batteries. It also features a front camera built into the display and supports the Apple Pencil.
