In the “Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct,” Nintendo showed for the first time in detail how the remake of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” on the Switch 2 plays. Series producer Eiji Aonuma personally guided us through the beginning of the game, walking from Kokiri Forest across Hyrule Field to Castle Town. In addition to the completely revised graphics, the remake also features free jumping for the first time, a rotatable camera, and voiced cutscenes.
Completely rebuilt
Visually, the remake has nothing in common with the N64 original from 1998. Nintendo has completely recreated models, landscapes, and materials but consciously decided against a photorealistic look. According to Aonuma, the team aimed for a look that evokes nostalgia rather than pure realism. However, the new “Ocarina of Time” will not have a seamless open world: loading screens will remain between larger areas – officially to preserve the structure of the original.
