A 67-year-old woman has drowned after falling in a flooded street and getting trapped under a car amid flash flooding in Majorca. The woman is believed to have slipped in the street and then fallen under a car as the intense water rushed down the street on Wednesday afternoon in Felanitx. The force of the water prevented the woman from freeing herself from beneath the vehicle, where water had become 'about two hand spans' deep, local media reports. She was found without a pulse by locals who alerted emergency services, with local police and the Civil Guard attending the scene. A police probe has since been launched this evening following the incident in south-east Majorca. A forensic examination is also underway.The president of the Balearic Government Marga Prohens expressed her condolences to the loved ones of the woman who died. 'Saddened by the death of a woman in Felanitx during the episode of rain and storms that has affected our islands today,' she wrote on X. The first female President of the region, Francina Armengol wrote: 'The worst news reaches us today from Felanitx, in the midst of this episode of rain and storms.'All my affection to the victim's family and friends during these very painful moments.'It comes after a red alert was issued in Majorca following hours of 'rapid but intense' storms and flooding, which saw trees fall and roads closed. The road between the capital Palma and Valldemosa was closed for several hours so firefighters could remove a large tree that had fallen onto the tarmac.Majorca Airport was also forced to suspend operations briefly for security reasons, prompting flight delays.Last month, a mother and daughter died during storms in Roda de Berà in the east coast Spanish province of Tarragona.The pair were rushed to a medical centre after a wall collapsed on them in the town marina during heavy rain and later succumbed to their injuries.
