The seven North-West states have vowed to shut down any private health training institution operating without full compliance with the requirements prescribed by law, in a fresh push to safeguard public health and flush out quacks from the region’s health sector.
The pledge was made by the Chairman of the Northwestern States Commissioners of Health Forum, who is also the Jigawa State Commissioner of Health, Dr Abdullahi Kainuwa, while speaking during a stakeholder engagement held on Wednesday at the conference hall of the Jigawa State Ministry of Health in Dutse, the state capital.
Dr Kainuwa said the decision by Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa and Zamfara followed a long period of calls for reforms in health training institutions across the country.
“We can no longer allow substandard schools to produce health workers,” he told proprietors and stakeholders present.
