…As Nigeria’s mobile market nears 200m

MTN Nigeria’s 100 million active-subscriber base is opening a bigger market for data, fintech and other digital services, giving the operator greater room to grow revenue as Nigerians increasingly shift from voice calls to mobile internet and digital transactions.

MTN ended July with 100.86 million active subscriptions, up from 98.64 million in June, according to the latest data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). It is the first Nigerian telecom operator to cross the 100 million mark, giving MTN 51.76 percent of the country’s 195.11 million active mobile subscriptions.

The milestone comes as Nigeria’s mobile market approaches 200 million active lines and consumers increasingly depend on networks for data, digital payments, streaming, business and other online services.

The operator added about 2.22 million subscribers in July, its strongest monthly growth so far this year and its biggest increase since November 2024. From about 94.25 million subscribers in January, MTN added more than 6.6 million lines in seven months, representing growth of about seven percent.
