OTTAWA — Canada’s artificial intelligence minister says Ottawa is monitoring the risks posed by AI as researchers at tech giant Anthropic warn that the increasingly powerful technology could potentially eradicate all human life within years.
“We’re in touch with all the big companies on this. We have followed this situation since this ministry started, with the number-one goal of protecting Canadians first, protecting our kids, our privacy, our personal data, protecting our critical infrastructure, protecting our sovereignty, and making sure that we have the defences that we need,” Solomon told reporters in Edmonton on Wednesday.
