For 43 days, Kenya’s public health system was paralysed by a nurses’ strike—a crisis marked by immense pain, suffering and loss of life.
By last evening, some 522 deaths had been recorded. Of these, 63 were women who died while giving birth. Another 69 deaths were babies who died immediately after being born.
