The Delhi International Airport Limited said on Wednesday that it has filed a first information report against 63 social media handles for circulating allegedly misleading posts about flooding and waterlogging at the Indira Gandhi International Airport last week. On September 4, water temporarily accumulated in the airport’s Terminal 3 arrival forecourt following heavy rainfall. The “incorrect posts” had shown that the airport was flooded and falsely suggested that operations had been disrupted, the operator stated. In one case, it said, an old video of waterlogging at Dubai Airport was shared as footage from Delhi.Such content was “intended to create public mischief, spread misinformation, defame a critical public utility service and create unwarranted concerns among passengers”, said the airport operator. It added that the area had received about 72.2 mm of rain between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on September 4, and that the accumulated water was cleared within 20 minutes without affecting airport operations.Eleven flights were diverted between 3.30 pm and 5 pm on September 4 due to bad weather, The Indian Express reported.
