NEW DELHIThe Delhi Police will record the statements of Manipur musician Chongtham Vikram Singh’s wife and son as part of their investigation into his death, officials said on Wednesday, adding that the seven men arrested and a 15-year-old boy apprehended in connection with the assault have no prior criminal records.The 54-year-old guitarist from Imphal died on September 7 from injuries sustained during a violent assault after he allegedly objected to shouting and nuisance being caused by workers outside his residence in Kilokari village in southeast Delhi’s Ashram area. He was allegedly assaulted with fists and blows and was subsequently taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.Police are closely examining CCTV footage and forensic evidence as they prepare to file a chargesheet.According to the complaint filed by Singh’s son, the musician, while on his way to the hospital in a taxi after the attack, said that the men who assaulted him were from the eatery opposite their house. He further told his son that some of the men had threatened him in the past after he objected to them creating a ruckus outside his house.Meanwhile, a police official said, “Singh had not lodged any police complaint in the past regarding harassment, lynching or racism. The accused persons also have no previous criminal records,” the official said.Police said no further arrests were expected and investigation was under way.Singh had been living in Delhi for around 17 years and had resided at the Ashram address since 2019.
