Jewish community leaders fear sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank will increase antisemitism in the UK, with the Government accused of having “quasi-legitimised Jew hatred”.
Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis led the condemnation, branding it “truly a dark day for British Jews”. He accused the Government of “political flag-bearing for mendacious anti-Israel rhetoric”.
Some British Jews also believe the Government introduced sanctions for domestic political gain to appease voters on the left.
The Green Party of England and Wales is set to mount a stiff challenge to Labour in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election triggered by Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation.
