The DA's Ashor Sarupen

If the DA gets its way, voters in six municipalities will not have an ANC candidate to vote for in the upcoming local government elections.

DA federal council chair Ashor Sarupen said the party approached the Electoral Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday to oppose the ANC’s bid to have late nominations accepted in six municipalities.

The Electoral Commission of SA, or the IEC, rejected the ANC’s candidate lists after the party failed to submit them by the 5pm deadline on August 28.

The ANC is now asking the court to allow its candidates to contest the elections in those municipalities.
