The iPhone Duo marks Apple's entry into the foldable phone market, nearly two decades after the original iPhone launched
Apple $AAPL unveiled its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, on Wednesday alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, marking the biggest change to the iPhone since its introduction nearly 20 years ago.
The announcement came at Apple's annual fall event, where new Chief Executive John Ternus made his public debut leading the company. Ternus took over from Tim Cook, who transitioned to executive chair of Apple's board on Sept. 1. Cook was in attendance at Wednesday's event.
The iPhone 18 Pro is priced at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, the company said — a $100 increase over the $1,099 and $1,199 starting prices of last year's iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, according to CNN. Apple attributed price increases across its product line this year to a global memory chip shortage that has driven up component costs.
