Fortum has signed a 22-year power purchase agreement, or PPA, with Google covering up to half the output of its Loviisa nuclear power plant on Finland's southeastern coast.
The deal, described by Fortum as inside information under stock market disclosure rules, runs through to 2050.
It is designed to underpin a lifetime extension of a plant that has been generating electricity since 1977.
Without the investment programme the PPA supports, Loviisa's two reactors could not have continued operating beyond 2030.
That matters because the plant currently supplies around 10% of Finland's electricity and employs approximately 580 people directly, with close to 100 more from contractors on site daily.
