…says Tinubu is the president Nigeria deserves beyond 2027
Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development and lead spokesman for the yet-to-be-inaugurated All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has said Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is seeking to restore fuel subsidy in order to return Nigeria to a system that enriched oil cartels.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, Alake said Atiku’s proposal to restore subsidy if elected president in 2027 would reverse the difficult economic reforms undertaken by President Bola Tinubu and ultimately deepen the country’s fiscal problems.
“The beneficiaries of the fuel subsidy were the cartels, the oil cartels. They would buy the fuel at a lower price, cross the border, immediately make humongous profits and come back to Nigeria to oppress the rest of us,” Alake said.
Atiku had recently said he would restore fuel subsidy if given the mandate in 2027, arguing that the policy should be reconsidered to reduce the hardship Nigerians are facing.
