Anak Krakatau sent lava spewing into the sky and volcanic ash over Jakarta and Lampung Province, and remained active through the weekend.
Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was the first to suspend flights on Sunday morning and did not resume operations until 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. The disruption affected nearly 3,000 flights and more than 340,000 passengers, according to Reuters.
Thu Trang, a traveler from Hanoi, found herself caught in a frustrating loop between her hotel and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after her Sept. 6 return flight was rescheduled.

She says passengers boarded the aircraft early on Sept. 6, only for it to taxi back and sit idle on the tarmac for over an hour before crew members asked everyone to disembark.
