There have previously been two film versions previously released in 1976 and 2013 but this interpretation promises a reinvention for fans.‌It is based on the book of the same name which was the debut novel of acclaimed author Stephen King originally published back in 1974 and helped kickstart his career. According to the brief synopsis, the series will follow a sheltered girl with telekinetic powers who is bullied, leading to a horrific, bloody incident due to her domineering mother's influence.‌This version is being brought to Prime Video by Mike Flanagan. Flanagan has previously brought other King works to life including Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep and Life of Chuck. He has also created a string of other horror series, some also based on classic works of fiction, including The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of The House of Usher and The Midnight Club.Amazon dropped a new trailer for the Carrie series earlier today (September 9), during which it begins to pull back the curtain on the urgent and arresting reinvention of the iconic story.‌It offers a revealing glimpse at how the series expands the world, bringing new depth and complexity to its beloved characters while exploring the forces that shape Carrie White. This seemingly includes bringing the narrative into the modern day.The titular character is being played by Summer H. Howell who reportedly earned the part following an extensive audition process. Around 1,500 actors apparently read for the role.Other confirmed cast members include The Pitt star Samantha Sloyan as Carrie's mother, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell and My Life With The Water Boys actor Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross. Matthew Lillard from the Scream franchise, is set to appear as Principal Grayle.‌Footage in the trailer shows what viewers can expect, including a focus on the psychological horror aspect of the story.
