Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Udupi District In-charge Minister Rizwan Arshad said on Wednesday that the Cabinet meeting scheduled in Mangaluru on September 18 is aimed at taking up proposals meant for the development of the coastal region.Speaking in Manipal after inaugurating the Udupi taluk-level Praja Seva meeting, the Minister said: “Through the Cabinet meeting emphasis will be placed on the development of the coastal region as a whole, including tourism development and business sector, and creating employment opportunities.”He said Praja Seva meetings will be held to uphold the voices of people by listening to their grievances and addressing them. Solutions to some of the grievances will be provided on the spot, he said.Time-bound solutions to the grievances of people will be provided by holding meetings.He said that the in-charge Ministers of the respective districts will hold meetings at the taluk level on the first and third Saturdays and at the hobli level on the second and fourth Saturdays in the presence of officers.Deputy Commissioners will follow up on the applications filed by people every Wednesday in the presence of senior officers. “Our government will seriously examine the applications of everyone,” he said.He said understanding the problems of the people in a systematic manner and keeping them informed about the status of the applications shows the responsible behaviour of the government.In all, 208 applications were submitted at the meeting. The Minister listened to the problems of the people and instructed department officials to take action and resolve the problems at the earliest.Speaking on the occasion, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said Praja Seva meetings will be more effective in energising each department and reminding officials of their duties and responsibilities.Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa said the government is trying to take schemes to the doorsteps of people through the meetings. She said the meetings are a good platform to get timely solutions to complaints and problems, and for the proper implementation of guarantee schemes.Karavali Development Board Chairman M.A. Gafoor and others were present.
