TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto thanked the Democratic Party for its political support over the years, including during his presidential campaigns in the 2019 and 2024 elections.Speaking at the Democratic Party's 25th anniversary celebration at Indonesia Arena in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 9, Prabowo also singled out former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who he said had personally campaigned alongside him."I thank the Democratic Party for its support in 2019 and 2024. President SBY even went into the field and campaigned together with us," Prabowo said, according to a statement monitored online.Prabowo said the party's support reflected shared aspirations and principles between him and the Democratic Party.He also praised the theme chosen for the party's anniversary: advancing the people's economy, upholding justice, and keeping democracy alive."I am very, very pleased with the theme chosen by the Democratic Party: advancing the people's economy, upholding justice, and keeping democracy alive," he said.Prabowo said these goals should be pursued collectively and were the responsibility of all parties.He then highlighted his shared background with SBY as former Indonesian military generals, saying their experiences as soldiers had shaped their commitment to serving the people.Prabowo said that commitment had continued through their involvement in politics, with democracy remaining central to political service."If we want to continue serving and dedicating ourselves through politics, we must practice politics through democracy," he said.
