A Georgia National Guardsman assigned to the federal task force patrolling Washington, D.C., has been charged with two felonies after witnesses told police he allegedly pointed a loaded service pistol at a fellow soldier during an argument over Army grooming regulations. Spc. Zion Mitchell, 21, of Macon, Ga., faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, according to an arrest affidavit filed in D.C. Superior Court. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest Sept. 1. He is being held without bond, according to court records, with a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 4. According to the affidavit, the confrontation happened around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 25, when a group of Guard members on a break from patrol were sitting in a black van parked near a Popeyes restaurant on H Street Northeast.
