The Duane Arnold nuclear power plant in Palo, Iowa. The plant was shuttered in 2020, but amid a nationwide surge in electricity demand from data centers the U.S. Department of Energy on Sept. 8, 2026, finalized a $1.9 billion loan to NextEra Energy to restart the facility.
