District Election Officer (DEO) and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao on Wednesday clarified that no notice was issued to Bharat Ratna awardee Professor C N R Rao in connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengaluru Urban district's Malleswaram Assembly Constituency.The clarification came after media reports claimed that a notice had been served on the eminent scientist over a discrepancy in his name in the electoral records.Read more - Tata emerges lowest bidder for Rs 20,000-crore Project Zorawar light tank; Mahindra to also develop prototypeNo notice issued to C N R Rao during SIRAccording to an official statement, the State SVEEP Nodal Officer, along with the Commissioner of BBMP West, visited Prof C N R Rao's residence and respectfully handed over the Enumeration Forms to him and his family members.The required information was subsequently filled in as part of the SIR exercise.The election authorities clarified that Rao was not asked to appear for a hearing or served a notice over the discrepancy.What is C N R Rao's name in the electoral roll?The official statement said that Prof Rao's name appeared differently in the 2002 electoral roll and the current electoral records.In the 2002 electoral roll for the 76-Malleswaram Assembly Constituency, he was listed at Serial No. 431, Part No. 129, under the name “Rama”.In the current electoral records, he is registered as “Professor C.N. Rao M” at Serial No. 187, Part No. 59, of the 157-Malleswaram Assembly Constituency.
