The United Kingdom has awarded scholarships to 68 Nigerians to pursue master’s and PhD programmes at universities across the country in the 2026 academic year.

The scholars, selected through highly competitive application and interview processes, were honoured at pre-departure ceremonies held in Abuja and Lagos. Of the recipients, 12 Nigerians received the Chevening Scholarship, while 56 have so far been awarded Commonwealth Scholarships.
Speaking at the pre-departure reception in Abuja, Vicky Seymour, Chargée d’Affaires at the British High Commission in Abuja, congratulated the scholars on their selection and urged them to use their experience in the UK to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
“Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars have bright futures,” Seymour said, describing the scholarships as an investment not only in the scholars but also in Nigeria’s future.
